Question: How long do I need to run my filter for? Answer You should run a filter for at least 8 hours and when the pool is being used a lot or when it is warm out, you should run the filter for longer. Question: I have Sand on the bottom what is causing this? Answer There are three reasons that this maybe occurring 1. Typically when sand is coming back into the pool it means one of the laterals are broken. 2. Your pump may be too big for your filter. 3. It may not be sand at the bottom of your pool, it may be chemical residue. To determine what the substance is at the bottom of the pool, use your vacuum to try to move the debris. If it scatters rabidly, then it is chemical residue, if it doesn’t scatter right away, then it is sand. Question: Why is my sand filter running in a short cycle? Answer There are two main reasons that this may be occurring. 1. If you do not backwash your filter properly then your cycle will be shorter than what it should be. To backwash your filter, make sure that the water is clear in your site glass before stopping. Backwashing usually takes 2 minutes. 2. Algae is often times the cause of your sand filter running in short cycles. By using algaecide, this should help cure this problem. Question: I have DE coming back into my pool what is causing this? Answer There are three reasons that this will happen. 1. The most common reason for this is one of the grids or elements have a small tear in it. Carefully examine it to see if there are any holes. 2. As with a sand filter, it may be chemical residue or plaster on the bottom of the pool. 3. Air leaks will also cause DE to go back into the pool. Question: Why is my DE filter running a short cycle? Answer Using a Biguanide such as Baquacil, Revacil and Softswim, to sanitize your pool will clog your filter. Also if you run your pool with out DE it will harm your filter making the cycles shorter than they should be. Question: Why is my filter so noisy? Answer By having a pump that is too big with your filter the water flow will be too much which will cause all the noise. To diagnose this problem, place your hand partially over one of the return lines and if the noise goes away that was your problem. To fix this you will want to go to a small eyeball fitting. Question: Is there a way to seal a leak in my filter? Answer There is no safe way to fix a leak in filter. |
